Degree Programs

While learning about recovery, you can work towards an accredited college degree. The following degrees have been designed around a curriculum of recovery knowledge.

Associate in Psychology:
The Associate of Science in Psychology provides a practical understanding of personality disorders, social problems, developmental and cognitive disorders, abnormal behaviors, treatment techniques, psychometric testing, age- and sex- specific disorders, substance abuse and more. This program serves professional growth and career needs for each element of the psychological discipline.

Associate in Health Care Management:
The Associate of Science in Health Care Management prepares students for positions in the field of health care management. The curriculum covers medical office management, medical records and insurance claims, medical coding, human anatomy and physiology, patient relations, medical assisting, and using Microsoft® Office. Students also learn business and communication skills critical to administrative tasks and duties that ensure the smooth delivery of health services.

Associate in Communication:
The Associate of Science in Communication degree program focuses on the basic communication skills highly sought after in relationships, business, and industry. Individuals who communicate well, adapt to social and economic change, function as team players, effectively analyze issues, and solve problems are vital in today’s workforce. This program helps develop these qualities and lays the groundwork for study toward a baccalaureate degree.

Certificate Programs

In addition to our degree programs, the Sober College School of Addiction Studies offers several four-course certificate programs.

Addiction Studies
Sixteen million Americans are estimated to need treatment for drug and Alcohol abuse. The Certificate in Addiction Studies provides students with an understanding of the science involved in chemical dependency, the tools to repair damaged relationships caused by addiction and directions for navigating the road to recovery.  Students who complete the certificate develop skills to compete for entry level jobs in the Recovery field and gain personal insight into the uphill road an addict climbs.

Business Management
Even the best products can’t keep a business open if management makes poor choices. The Certificate in Business Management gives students an advantage by teaching them how to accomplish critical and innovative business objectives in today's changing business environment.

Entrepreneurship
Do you have a brilliant idea for a new business? The Certificate in Entrepreneurship is designed for individuals seeking to own and operate their own business. Students learn to write a business plan and critically evaluate that plan based on today’s changing marketplace. You can be running your own businesses in no time!

Sales and Marketing
Love commercials? Advertisements? Product packaging? The Certificate in Sales and Marketing is designed for individuals who want a solid foundation in sales and marketing concepts. These individuals learn to better understand how to identify their target market, conduct research on how to appeal to that market, and find the best method of marketing their products and services.

Interpersonal Communication
Many organizations are seeking employees who can work effectively with other people by applying the principles of human behavior to the workplace.  The Certificate in Interpersonal Communication exposes students to skills that will enhance their ability to become leaders in organizations or to work in personnel-related fields.

Criminology
Criminology is the multidisciplinary study of crime, criminal behavior, and social reactions to crime and criminal behavior.  The Certificate in Criminology provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge needed for employment in the criminal justice system.

Journalism
The Certificate in Journalism provides academic and professional development in the theory and practice of written communication and offers students the opportunity to acquire the communication skills essential in business and professional careers.  Completion of this program can dramatically impact performance in other courses that involve writing.  

Pop Culture
The Certificate in Pop Culture takes a broad approach to the relationships between culture and media in a number of domains including: film, print, and broadcast journalism. The courses examine at emerging social and cultural developments shaped by new media practices and the political economy shaping the production, distribution and consumption of media worldwide.

Music Business Management
The Certificate in Music Business is a mix of basic business and music industry specific courses. Students gain real-world music industry knowledge about record labels, promoters, studios and other aspects of the music industry. Students are also encouraged to find and promote local artists with potential.

Graphic Arts and Web Design
The Certificate in Graphic Arts and Web Design provides students with the knowledge to design and implement effective, dynamic web sites.  Using Macromedia Dreamweaver and skills from Photoshop and QuarkXpress, students will learn marketable web design techniques.  Each course is one semester hour, for a total of four semester hours for this certificate.

Psychology
The Certificate in Psychology provides a broad examination of human mental processes and behavior. It includes an overview of the concepts covered in abnormal psychology, social psychology, and the psychology of individual personalities.

Health Care Management
The Health Care Management certificate looks at organizational changes, increased regulatory and environmental pressures, monitoring of the quality and safety of patient care, and the impact of technology on those who lead health care organizations. The health care leader must possess a toolkit of skills to meet these challenges. These courses introduce the fundamentals of health care management and organizational dynamics, including the structure and function of health care organizations and managerial skills, such as communication, problem solving, and decision making.
